Bovey pulled of their greatest SWP result ever with this hard fought Friday night victory at Plymouth Parkway. Much has been made of Parkway losing a couple of high profile players but still on paper they would have been overwhelming favourites against a Bovey side themselves that have lost 6 players since the New Year. After a 1st half in which Bovey perhaps shaded, the 2nd saw Bovey defend with guile, commitment, good football and good fortune as Parkway pressed hard, But apart from a 10 minute spell just after the hour, Bovey keeper Buckler wasn't worked.
The 1st half saw very little goal action, Parkway began well, passing the ball with confidence, in particular Shane Krac spreading the ball nonchantly with a superb array of accurate passing.
When Parkway did manage to get the ball forward to powerhouse Hobbs (tucked in behind the front 2) he was often, strangely for him, outbattled and was reduced to long range shots that were way off target. Parkways final ball to front 2 Richards, and Zalick was often brilliantly read and intercepted by the excellently organised Bovey defence of Walters, Head, Robinson and Cowell.
Bovey themselves prompted by a man of the match performance from player/manager Ellis Laight, began to look the better team going forward with little winger Adam Hill running with conviction at the Parkway back 3 but more often than not the big Parkway defender Chitty was prominent with some excellent positioning both in the air,and on the ground.
Bovey wasted a 3 on 2 opportunity when the tireless Dan Taylor ran at the home defence and with options either side of him in Roe and Pascoe,he overhit the final ball. Possibly Taylor's only mistake of the match.
The 2nd half was a different affair for Bovey as Parkway upped the tempo, 1st chance fell to Bovey though with Roe slicing his shot after being teed up neatly by Taylor.
On the hour Parkway were in full tilt and a 10 minute spell saw Bovey clear off the line 3 times. It was corners that Parkway looked most threatning. From 1 of these Dan Taylor made a superb block with his stomach after a powerful Hobbs shot, Some Parkway players claimed handball.
A few minutes later Bovey had a real let off as Chitty sent a flicked header goalwards from a Krac corner, Bovey's Cowell spectacularly headed off the line but, i must admit it looked over.
Next up Bovey keeper Buckler was forced into a good low save from a Richards shot, the rebound fell to Zalick who placed his shot past Buckler only to watch in frustration as that man Laight had the precence of mind to back his defence up and clear off the line.
After this Parkway could not find a way through the Bovey rearguard in which centrebacks Robinson and Head were outstanding and quite often Parkway were caught offside.
I was just saying what a cracking player Krac is in the Parkway midfield, bang on cue he blotted his copy book! As Bovey hit Parkway on the break, Laight slipped in Roe in a very dangerous position who touched the ball forward only to be completly wiped out by a terrible challenge from Krac, who was un-surprisingly dismissed by the Referee who had a good game. The scence was set and up stepped Lee Pascoe to side foot past Piper and give Bovey the lead in the 85th minute.
Bovey saw out the remaining minutes comfortably for a superb win. A good crowd at Parkway and the new facilties are excellent. Well done to all there.
